Description

A Coleção de Culicidae, CCULI, da Fiocruz abriga pouco mais de 4 mil espécimes da família Culicidae, incluindo exemplares da região Neotropical, Neártica e Australiana. A maior parte deste acervo é resultante de projetos relacionados à biodiversidade, taxonomia e ecologia de mosquitos realizados pela equipe do Laboratório de Mosquitos Transmissores de Hematozoários – LATHEMA/IOC. O acervo também é constituído do material tipo de espécies descritas pela equipe da CCULI. O acervo dessa coleção serve de apoio às atividades do serviço de referência do laboratório, solucionando problemas de identificação dos espécimes coletados, mantendo ainda um serviço permanente de consulta ao acervo, depósito, identificação, empréstimo, e permuta de exemplares para taxonomistas da própria instituição assim como de outras instituições. Cumprindo ainda um papel didático-pedagógico, são mantidos alguns espécimes para doação a instituições, como escolas, universidades e museus.
